Join Mindy Todd, host of CAI’s The Point, and author Laura L. Lovett as they celebrate International Women’s History Month and explore the life of community organizer and activist Dorothy Pittman Hughes. Her iconic 1971 photo portrait along with fellow Ms. Magazine founder Gloria Steinem made her image famous, however, her vital contributions made to the African American community over many decades as a successful businesswoman encouraged the development and empowerment of those communities.
Laura L. Lovett is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Pittsburgh who specializes in 20th century US women’s history and the history of children’s youth. Lovett and her then University of Massachusetts/Amherst students spent the summer of 2013 at MBL conducting research leading to the development of the MBL History Project.
