Join us to learn about Wycinanki, the art of Polish paper cutting. Susan Urban, a Polish Craft and Culture specialist will lead the class. To register, email the library at cpl@chicopeepubliclibrary.org or stop by the Reference Desk. Participants in this class will learn about how Polish paper cutting began, explore various designs and create their own cutouts. Included will be designs for a Tree of Life, a Heart cutout, a cutout that can be made as a gift for moms and a Polish rooster. Use your own supplies or request paper and scissors when you register.

List of supplies for Polish Paper Cutting Class: 

  • Lighter weight colored paper (such as copy paper, not cardstock) in
  • Black, blue, red, green, yellow (if you have other colors, choose 4 or more)
  • You will need two sheets of black paper. The others can be colors of your choice. 
  • Ruler
  • Scissors (smaller blades with pointed ends works best)
  • Glue stick
  • Eraser
  • Pencil

If you’d like to mount your artwork, posterboard or white cardboard works well

This is part of our Virtual Polish Programming. The Chicopee Public Library received an IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) CARES Act Grant to provide virtual programming for distance learning, distributed to the Library through the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
